Jack Byrne – Linguist of the Year Success

March 12, 2026

Third year student Jack Byrne achieved outstanding success this year in the national Linguist of the Year competition. As part of the competition, Jack created a one-minute video in Spanish describing what he enjoys doing in his free time. His impressive entry earned him second place in his category, competing against students of the same age from across the country.
Although Jack is not a native speaker, he has always shown a real enthusiasm for learning Spanish and consistently puts in the hard work needed to improve. What makes Jack stand out most is his willingness to use the language at every opportunity, speaking as much Spanish as possible both in and out of the classroom.
Jack collected his award on Wednesday, 11 March, at a ceremony in UCD. We are incredibly proud of him! An outstanding achievement and a wonderful example of dedication to language learning.
