Sports

Basketball

Our basketball teams compete at First Year, Second Year, Under-16 and Under-19 level each academic year. The sport has proven to be very popular among students in each year, this has been mirrored in the school’s success over the past few years.

The current Under-16 and Under-19 teams have recently progressed from their groups and are through to the quarter finals of their respective competitions. Our 2021/2002 Second Year team reached the All Ireland Semi Final at their level, the first side from St Paul’s College to do so since the 1980’s.

GAA Football

The GAA programme plays a vital role in the extra curricular offering at St. Paul’s College.

Building on the excellent work done in our local GAA clubs, St. Paul’s College fields no less than 8 GAA teams across 1st Year, Under 14 , Under 16 and Senior age grades.

We strive to be as inclusive as possible and encourage all students to join a squad regardless of their previous experience or ability. GAA coaches at St. Paul’s place a huge emphasis on developing the skills of our national games, but we also strive to develop lifelong skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication and commitment, which will benefit our students long into the future.

In recent years we have had some highly talented players represent Dublin at underage level. We are massively proud of their achievements and we have no doubt this will continue. Undoubtedly, though, the key role of the GAA programme in the school is to enhance the wellbeing and development of our students and provide them with lifelong memories.

Rugby

Essential to the success of Rugby in St Paul’s College was the establishment of the  Rugby Parents Association (RPA).
This association has a strong involvement in organisation, funding and coaching of youth teams.

As well as coaches recruited from professional clubs and elsewhere, many of our notable former pupils return to coach in St. Paul’s College.

As part of the RPA there is a Parents’ Rugby Committee who meet regularly to discuss fund-raising and financing, organisation of tours as well as kits, first aid and safety issues. If you have a son who plays Rugby in school and would be interested in getting  involved with the RPA please email rpa@stpaulscollegerugby.ie

Soccer

Soccer has always been played at St. Paul’s College both at a competitive and non-competitive level. We compete at division one standard in the FAIS metro league and Leinster cups at First Year, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 level.

Throughout the years St. Paul’s have had great success competing at the highest level against very competitive opposition. In 2017 our Under-17 team won both the Dublin Metro League and Leinster League competitions.

We are very proud in the college to have Under-15 Ireland International Billy Hayes and Under-17 Ireland International Anthony Dodd amongst our current crop of players.
