Our U16 basketball team brought their season to a proud close on Thursday 8th January when they competed in the All-Ireland Play-Offs, following a very successful Dublin League campaign. The squad left school at 8am for a long but exciting day of competition, accompanied by coaches Deirdre Tobin and Emily Martin, along with assistant coach Daniel O’Hara (5th Year). The team played three matches across the day, facing strong opposition from around the country.
Game 1: A narrow 5-point loss to Nord Anglia International School, Leopardstown
Game 2: A tough contest against St Ronan’s College, Lurgan, ending 50–38
Game 3: A well-earned 41–34 victory over Sligo Grammar School
It was great to finish the day on a high, with a confident team performance in the final match. A special highlight was the electric atmosphere created by supporters from other schools in the last match, who were particularly taken with Ben Kelly’s No. 67 jersey and they went wild for both of his three-pointers!
Although this brings the season to an end, the squad can be extremely proud of their efforts. They have worked hard, played with great teamwork, and learned a great deal along the way. Ms Tobin and Ms Martin expressed how proud they are of the players and were also very impressed with the passion and commitment shown by assistant coach Daniel O’Hara throughout the season. Well done to all involved on a fantastic year of basketball!
