There was some fierce competition in the under-19s basketball league this year and, unfortunately, despite some strong wins, St Paul’s didn’t qualify. The team can take some consolation though from their fantastic win against St Fintan’s on Tuesday 22nd October. They are one of the strongest teams in Dublin and we beat them by 15 points.
For a lot of the team, it was their last match for St Paul’s and they fought for every minute of it. Our defense was off the charts, with countless steals from Eduardo Tomo-Reyes, Sean O’Connell and Tomek Flynn turning into successful fast breaks.
Cathal Shovlin and Alex Antonov worked tirelessly on rebounds, either scoring off our own offensive rebounds, or firing out quick passes from defensive rebounds. In fact, Cathal might be getting a call from the NFL after an amazing full court javelin pass that ended in a basket!
Eduardo, Alex and Tomek all made 3-pointers and the high scorer of the match was Cathal, putting in 25 of our 68 points. The lads all played a blinder and I imagine they’ll remember that game with pride.
Myself (D. Tobin) and Ms Clarke would like to thank them, and the more junior members of the team, for being great to work with. Their team spirit and positivity are an inspiration and will serve them well in the future.
