Dublin Hurling Awards
November 25, 2024
The following address was delivered by Mr. Devine upon accepting the Dublin Hurling School of the Year award last Friday at the Bonnington Hotel:
“The journey of hurling in St Paul’s in recent years has been nothing short of extraordinary. From its modest beginnings as a secondary sport, supported by a small contingent of staff members, it has now become the heartbeat of our school’s athletic program.
Thanks to the unflagging dedication of our coaches, staff, and school management hurling has transformed into not only a competitive pursuit but a source of immense pride and unity for our school.
In 2023/24, we drove on from previous years and managed to win all of our competitions from 1st year right through to Senior level. We now make the jump to a higher division this year with optimism and the eagerness that only sport can bring.
The progression we’ve seen, it must be noted, is a testament to the collaborative effort, of surrounding clubs, sponsors, and school management. All have played pivotal roles in cultivating a winning culture. Students have embraced the discipline, focus, and teamwork in representing the school which as we all know as sportspeople will extend into their academic, personal and social lives.
It’s a great honour tonight to recognize the invaluable contributions of our coaching staff, some of whom are here with us to celebrate. Without their unwavering commitment, hurling would not be in the positive position it is today.
Many thanks to all at Friends of Dublin hurling for this honour. We look forward to an even brighter future for hurling in our school.”
